- Abt. 1882 (As judged by the birth of their first child, Clinton, the 1900 census, and the 1880 census records.)
Data
- Birth
- 10 Jan 1858
- Lawrence Co., Arkansas
- Death
- 28 Sep 1947
- Kinta, Haskell Co., Oklahoma
- Burial
- San Bois Cemetery, Kinta, Haskell County, Oklahoma
Sources
- Sans Bois Cemetery - There's a lot of family here.
- http://members.tripod.com/~mccurtain_2/onlinecem/sans1.html
- Helen's line reads: Harris, Helen ; 10 Jan 1858 - 28 Sep 1947
- The cemetery also has many of Helen's relatives and the headstone data fits the Helen that I have found in the 1910 census.
- Haskell County Death Records
- Death Records on the McCurtain, Haskell County, Oklahoma Genealogical Society's website.
- They don't give many details on how or where they found the records, but they're supposed to be "local". The only name I could find that I recognized, was Helen's. Her line from the record read as follows: HARRIS, Helen , F , 28 Sept 1947 , Book 6 , 21
- I presume this is the same Helen based on the matching death date. (For this reason I match it with the headstone source.) Helen is listed as Helen F. Harris. (I am therefore made a bit more curious where we get "Permelia Ann" from. It's not in any of my other sources.)

1900 U.S. Census - Morgan and Reeds Creek Townships, Lawrence County, Arkansas, page 22 of 43
Age given as 40. Birth date given as Jan 1860. Number of years married given as 18 years. -
Headstone of Thomas Monroe and Helen A. Harris.
- 1910
- Kinta, Haskell County, Oklahoma
- Series: T624, Roll: 1254, Page: 3
- House No.: 36
- Family No.: 39
- Appears as head of household with her children Bishop, Clinton, Cicero, Ellen, Edgar, and Talmage, but not William or Katherine. Bishop's age is given as either 14 or 17 (probably 14).
- 1880
- Reeds Creek, Lawrence, Arkansas
- Family History Library Film: 1254049, NA Film Number: T9-0049, Page Number: 484B
- http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/census/household_record.asp?HOUSEHOLD_CODE=1880US_11641945&HOUSEHOLD_SUB=1&frompage=5
- A "Helen A. Cason" is listed here as a 22 year old niece in the LaBass family. (The indexers apparently read the name as "Helen A. Cuson".) Further research has shown that our Helen Cason's mother Mary F. (Frost) Cason was the sister of Volumnia Anne (Frost) LaBass. (Mary F. Cason was apparently also the half-sister of her mother-in-law.)
- Here's Mr. LaBass: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/PRF/individual_record.asp?recid=700118222&lds=2®ion=-1®ionfriendly=&frompage=99
- Volumnia is then a Frost and Helen would have to be related through a sister of Volumnia unless Cuson is Cousin and also not Helen's real last name.
- We then have Volumnia's parents as Gabriel Frost and Levisa Tyler.
- This Gabriel Frost is given with a wife named Permelia here: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/search/IGI/individual_record.asp?recid=100399857422&lds=1®ion=11®ionfriendly=North+America&frompage=99
- Mr. Labass is shown having married a Malinda Harris here: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/IGI/individual_record.asp?recid=100339138462&lds=1®ion=11®ionfriendly=North+America&frompage=99
- The marriage date precedes the marriage date for Volumnia, who may then have been a second wife following the death of a first wife. The name Harris is suggestive. Is Helen meet here husband through family. (Is she blood related to her husband?)
- Malinda's death date is given as 15 MAR 1851 whereas Volumnia married Mr. LaBass on 29 Jul 1851. Things add up nicely.
- Better summary for Mr. LaBass here: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/search/PRF/individual_record.asp?recid=820190697
- We find that Mahala Frost, daughter of Gabriel Frost, married Seborn Cason here:http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~angelasattic/ALL/pafg590.htm#17740
- No Helen is listed among the children and neither is there a child listed as having been born in 1858. However, Seborn dies in 1862, giving half the explanation as to why a daughter might have been living with cousins.
- Source for provided child list is stated to be 1860 census. There doesn't seem to be a reason why Helen wouldn't be listed if she were born in this family.
- Not finding Helen in this family, but suspect relation, I searched Seborn's male siblings for their children, but found nothing (though I couldn't find satisfactory information on all of them). However, I then began a search of Seborn's children's children and found via FamilySearch that Seborn's first son, Dennis William Cason married a Mary or Polly Frost (Frost... !Shock and Horror! :-o). They have one child listed as Helen A. Cason born in 1858. Dennis died before September 1865 and though his wife's death date is not given, this does much to explain what Helen is doing in the home of relatives. The only thing left to do now, I suppose, is to try to catch them all together in the 1860 census in Lawrence Arkansas. Of course, if this doesn't pan out then there's much to do, and it would be nice to find record of Helen's marriage to Thomas Harris and to connect Thomas to the LaBass family through Mr. LaBass's first wife to kind of tie things together. (This family's weirdly intermarried it appears.)
- Wait a second... couldn't I have just searched for Helen Cason in Arkansas born 1858 and found her in this family? Sigh... yes, I could've. Maybe I did and ignored it. The record by itself doesn't have much to recommend itself as accurate. Only with the rest of the picture does the record seem likely to be correct.
- Here's a site where someone else found the same thing. They have more detail. I wonder what their source records are: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:1980254&id=I0767
- Seborn Cason
- Dennis Cason
- 1870
- Family 87, Line 26
- Listed in family of mother and step-father, Jonathan J. Wilson.
Helen's family can't seem to be found in 1860 based on various indexed searches of Arkansas and the entire U.S.A. as well a manual run through Reed's Creek and Scott townships in Lawrence County, Arkansas.
