DEATH OF JOEL C. HECK

RETIRED FARMER DIES HERE AT HOME OF HIS SON

Had Been a Resident of Jasper County Forty Years

Joel C. Heck, a widely known retired farmer of this diestrict, died at 6:30 o'clock this morning at the home of his son, Leroy Heck, on Missouri Avenue. He was 70 years old. Death was caused by hardening of the arteries. he had been in poor health one year.

Mr. Heck had been a resident of this district of Jasper County for 40 years. He was born in Clark County, Ohio October 21, 1849. He was reared there and married November 21, 1872, Miss Jemima Shoup. In February 1879, they moved to Jasper County, locating in Carthage for a short time, then moving to a farm several miles northwest of Carthage, later buying what is now known as the Heck farm, two miles northwest of the city. Mrs. Heck died June 19, 1911. Four years ago Mr. heck gave up farming and moved to Carthage.

Seven of eight children survive. The survivors are:

Oda Montgomery of Montezuma, Kansas
Samuel M. Heck, Seattle Washington
Edward D. Heck of Carthage
John A. Heck of Carthage
Anna M. Wood of Montezuma, Kansas and
Leroy Heck of Carthage

Mr. Heck was an authorized minister in the German Baptist Church. He never belonged to any lodge or secret society.
