Other Sources to Follow Up On

The following are excerpts from an email. They should be deleted as they are followed up on.

3. US Census, 1870 (Septemer 14, 1870) – Black River, Independence Co., AR, HH64, Pg. 10, Roll: M593_)55, Pg. 38B. Cicero Harris (age 30, born GA, Occupation: Farmer, Real Estate Value: $1000, Personal Property Value: $200) is found on this census. Living in his household are: Elizabeth Harris (age 21, born GA) and Mary Harris (age 2, born AR). [Note: This is Cicero with his first wife, Elizabeth, and daughter, Mary (who is also buried in the Gordon Cemetery).]

2. US Census, 1880 (June 8-9, 1880) – Smith, Cross Co., AR, ED63, HH83, Pg. 9, Roll: 42, Pg.120A. Cicero Harris (brother, age 44, born GA, Parents born GA, Occupation: Farmer) is found on this census in the household of Edward Harris (age 51, born GA, Parents born GA, Occupation: Farmer, Marital Status: Single). Also in the household is: Mary H. Harris (sister, age 11, born AR, Father born GA, Mother born NC). [Note: This is Cicero Harris and his daughter, Mary Harris, even though the census taker did make a few errors such as listing Cicero as “single” instead of widowed and listed his daughter as his “sister”. You can see that she is the same Mary as in the 1870 census with Cicero.]

3. Second Marriage: Ancestry tree titled “Henry-Osteen-Hartsfield-Yates Family” compiled by “henryo728” shows Cicero F. Harris married after Elizabeth’s death to Nancy C. Browning on August 18, 1881 in Cross Co., AR. The following is the Ancestry source for this marriage: Dodd, Jordan, Liahona Research, Comp., Arkansas Marriages, 1851-1900). This researcher has posted my photos of Cicero Harris’ tombstone on his tree. Looking at the timeline and the county of marriage, I do think this is the same Cicero F. Harris as then married Vandora in 1884.

4. US Census, 1900 (June 16, 1900) - Scott, Sharp Co., AR, HH150, Roll: T623_77; Page: 8B; Enumeration District: 127. Cicero Harris (age 59, born September 1840, born GA, Parents born NC, Married 16 yrs (est. marriage 1884), Occupation: Farmer) is found on this census. Living in his household are: Vannie Harris (age 58, born August 1861, born AR, Father born AL, Mother born VA, Number of Living Children: 1, Number children born: 1, Married 16 yrs), Ella Harris (daughter, age 20, born September 1879, born AR), Alonzo Harris (son, age 15, born February 1885, born AR) and Charlie Bruce (boarder, age 27, born May 1878, born AR, Parents born AR, Occupation: Laborer). [Note: Even though Ella and Alonzo both show their parents as being born in Georga and Arkansas, Vannie is not Ella’s mother. Alonzo is the only child I found born to Cicero and Vannie."]

5. US Census,1910 (May 14, 1910) – Hickory, Love Co., OK, ED169, HH119, Pg. 7A, Roll: T624_1261, Pg. 59. “Cuero F. Harris” (age 69, born GA, Parents born NC, Married 2 times, Married 26 yrs, Occupation: Farmer) is found on this census. Living in his household are: Vandora L. Harris (age 48, born AR, Father born VA, Mother born AL, Married 1 time, married 26 yrs) and Alonzo E. Harris (son, age 25, born AR, Father born GA, Mother born AR, Occupation: Laborer, Home Farm). [Note #1: Living next door in HH120 is Cicero’s son, William G. Harris with his wife, Laura A., and daughter, Gracie.] [Note: #2: This census shows us that Cicero Harris was married two times and his wife, Vandora, was only married one time. It shows them both as married 26 years which is the total number of years they have been married to each other.]

  • I saw, also on Ancestry, that Nancy Browning Roberts was connected to another Cicero Harris who was born in 1834. I’m not sure about her so have listed her as “Unconfirmed” on Cicero’s memorial. Looks like she married your Cicero but without deeper research, I can’t say for sure since she never shows up on a census record with he or his children.
