I am a descendant of Phineas Cox b: 10 Oct 1764, Halifax Co. Va. who married Barbara Stump b: 04 Jan 1762 Stumpsville, Lebanon Co. Pa. I have been researching family history since the early 1980s, authored a book on my Cox - Roark Family, 1986, and was a contributor for "Warren County, Kentucky Families", 1991, published by Turner Publishing Co. for Warren County Historical Society and Southern Kentucky Genealogical Society. A group of the Cox Cousins (138 of us) have formed a closed group and actively research daily. Ten male members have submitted Y-DNA, showing that they have a common ancestor. Our goal is to find others who share this common ancestor and to prove who that ancestor might be! Toward that end, I created a Family Tree Maker database containing Cox families of Virginia, concentrating mainly in Halifax, Henry, Pittsylvania, and Patrick Counties. This includes William Cox and Jemima Turner. From William Cox's will, I show 11 children for this couple, and other information points to William's parents as Henry Cox and Elizabeth Chappell. This last I have no confirmation on. I would love to share and compare information to see if there is a connection between our Cox families.
