Transcription of Lower Record

Thomas Jefferson Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia to all to whom these presents shall come greeting: Know ye that in consideration of the ancient composition of fifteen shillings sterling paid by George Reives into the treasury of this commonwealth there is granted by the said commonwealth unto the said George Reives a certain tract or parcel of land containing one hundred and six acres by survey bearing date the thirteenth day of December one thousand seven hundred and seventy three, sixty two acres part thereof being formerly surveyed for Christopher Bolling the Right and title of which has since become vested in the said George Reives. Lying and being in the county of Henry formerly Pittsylvania on both sides of Smith's River and bounded as followeth, to wit, Beginning at William Cox's [?] Chesnut tree on the south side of the River thence along his lines West thirty four poles to a Chesnut tree: thence new lines North twenty eight degrees West
